Introduction
Intek have only been in the CB radio game a few years now, however most of their radios are manufactured in the old Midland CB factory which says alot about the quality. This handheld radio is the latest hadheld CB radio on the market and in my opinion, is the best. It is extremely compact (not like the CB handhelds from the 80's!) and relatively simple to use, considering the wealth of features it has on offer. It has a very large LCD, plus performance seems very good too.
Specifications
Channels: 10 Bands including UK, EU and Poland. AM and FM.
Features: (from left to right, top to bottom) Squelch/Autosquelch rotary control, on/off/vol rotary control, PTT button, Light, ME, AF, Menu, Lock, Scan, Dual Watch, Speech processor, Emergency button, Last channel, Up/Down channel buttons, car kit connection.
On the top there is a BNC antenna socket and 'Standard'(Icom) wired accessory socket, so you can attach various different accessories.
The set comes with a BNC type rubber duck, car kit, mains charger(although you need to buy batteries) and an Operator's Manual.
Takes 6 AA Batteries.
Performance
Receive: Plenty of volume for a handheld, good quality audio too. Sensitivity is as good as a mobile rig. Squelch works well, and this radio has the added advantage of auto squelch, which no other CB handheld has.
Transmit: Plenty of volume on transmit too, deviation easily hits 2khz and microphone is sensitive without being over the top. Power out is 4 watts on highest setting. Although I would recommend using decent quality rechargeables if you are going to use the 4 watt setting. I messed around with some cheap ones for a while and couldnt get the full output.
Build Quality: Typical good Intek build quality, radio feels very well built. The car kit was a bit tricky to put on(mainly because I have very big hands!) but once attached worked very well.
Recommendations
The Intek H520 CB handheld is a great quality solid handheld. It has more features than any other handheld on the market, including autosquelch, speech processor and variable power, which is good for making your batteries last longer.
If you are looking for a rugged handheld that works well and want all the features you can get, then the Intek H520 is for you.
