INTEK M-150 Plus REVIEW

Introduction

Intek have only been in the CB radio game a few years now, however most of their radios are manufactured in the old Midland CB factory which says alot about the quality. This mobile rig is the second cheapest in their range, however you do get quite alot for your money. It is same size as the bigger Intek CB's(M490,M495,M760) however it has the added bonus of a front speaker and PA function, which is unheard of for a radio in this price bracket. Like all the Intek radios, it is easy to use and can access the European channels (MultiStandard), so it is legal to use it across Europe(with appropriate licence).

Specifications

Channels: 10 Bands including UK, EU and Poland. AM and FM.

Features: (from left to right) AM/FM (EU/UK) switch, EMG Channel 9/19 button, PA or ANL button(for AM), Roger Bleep button, volume and squelch rotary controls, and Up & Down buttons. The rest of the display is conventional with a bright green LED channel display and illuminated TX/RX and feature led's. Also the radio does not go back to channel 9 every time you remove the power (great feature).

The back of the rig has the 12 Volt DC power lead, PA and Extension speaker sockets and SO239 antenna socket.

The set comes complete with a good sized, standard Intek Microphone without the Up & Down Channel buttons (which I prefer). It plugs into a 4 pin socket(uniden wired) on the front panel. Also included is an Operator's Manual, power lead, mounting bracket and side screws.

Performance

Receive: Considering the size of the small speaker in the front panel there is plenty of volume, and it doesn't distort even at high volume. Sensitivity is good too. Squelch is slightly slack, about half way, but to be honest it doesnt really matter as the Auto-Squelch seems to do the job very well.

Transmit: Plenty of volume on transmit too, deviation easily hits 2khz and microphone is sensitive without being over the top. Power is set to exactly 4 watts.

Build Quality: Typical good Intek build quality, radio feels solid, seems like Intek have used a decent quality front speaker too.

Recommendations

The Intek M-150 Plus is a good quality low priced rig with the advantage of PA and built-in front speaker. It also has that solid Intek build quality which means you're unlikely to have any problems with this rig.

If you're looking for a decent quality low-priced rig with PA and/or front speaker then the M-150 Plus is the radio for you.
