Introduction

Intek have only been in the CB radio game a few years now, however most of their radios are manufactured in the old Midland CB factory which says a lot about the quality. This mobile rig is their mid-range radio. It has some nice features including, Scan, Dual Watch and my favorite feature, ESP. This is basically a speech processor which works very well on transmit and receive. Like all the Intek radios, it is easy to use and can access the European channels (MultiStandard), so it is legal to use it across Europe(with appropriate licence).

 

Specifications

Channels: 10 Bands including UK, EU and Poland. AM and FM.

Features: (from left to right) EMG Channel 9/19 and Dual Watch button, Scan button, ESP button, volume and squelch rotary controls, Quick Up & Down buttons, AM/FM/LCR button, Rotary channel control. The display is LCD with an orange backlight and signal meter along the bottom. Also the radio does not go back to channel 9 every time you remove the power (great feature).

The back of the rig has the 12 Volt detachable DC power lead, Extension speaker socket and SO239 antenna socket.

The set comes complete with a good sized, standard Intek Microphone with Up & Down Channel buttons and also a lock button which stops the up/down buttons being hit accidentally(very handy). It plugs into a 6 pin socket(P6 wired) on the front panel. Also included is an Operator's Manual, power lead, mounting bracket and side screws.

 

Performance

Receive: The quality of signal is excellent, there is plenty of volume. Sensitivity is good too. Squelch seems to work well, although it lacks the Auto-squelch feature. It does have the ESP feature though, which really boosts incoming signals.

Transmit: Plenty of volume on transmit too, deviation easily hits 2khz and with ESP this radio really booms out. Microphone is sensitive without being over the top. Power is set to exactly 4 watts.

Build Quality: Typical good Intek build quality, radio feels solid.

 

Recommendations

The Intek M-790 Plus is a great mid-range radio with the really handy ESP feature. It also has that solid Intek build quality.

If you're looking for a high quality mid-priced rig with ESP then the Intek M790 Plus could be the radio for you.
