PRESIDENT HARRY II REVIEW

Introduction

President have manufactured CB radios for many years now, but are maybe more well known for their SSB radios, such as the Lincoln. However over the last few years they have produced a few 'UK legal' radios with multi channels and UK FM channels built in. The President Harry II is a more basic model but contains all the channels you need and has a couple of handy features too.

Specifications

Channels: 10 Bands including UK, EU and Poland. AM and FM.

Features: (from left to right) AM/FM switch, 'F' switch, Channel 19 Switch, On/Off/Vol rotary control, Squelch/Auto squelch rotary control, RF Gain, Channel rotary control. It has a green LED channel display and illuminated TX/RX and signal strength led's.

The back of the rig has the 12 Volt DC power lead, Extension speaker socket and SO239 antenna socket.

The set comes with a disappointingly small microphone(without UP/Down), although the audio quality is very good. It plugs into a 6 pin socket on the front panel. Also included is an Operator's Manual, power lead, mounting bracket and side screws.

Performance

Receive: Plenty of volume for a small radio, audio quality is very good too. Sensitivity is very good. Squelch is very sharp, only needs to be set to 10 o'clock to cancel out all noise, Auto-squelch seems to do the job very nicely too.

Transmit: Good quality audio on transmit too, deviation easily hits 2khz. Power is set to exactly 4 watts.

Build Quality: Typical good President build quality. Seems solid for a small radio.

Recommendations

The President Harry 2 is a small, simple and easy to use rig, with all the Euro channels built in. It seems typical good President quality.

It may not be as cheap as some of the other basic radios, but if you are looking for a simple to use and sturdy rig and dont need any fancy features, the President Harry 2 will be hard to beat.
