More TTI Reviews
Introduction
TTI have only been in the CB radio game a few years now, the radios are made in China and although I have said on other TTI reviews that I don't feel that the quality is as good as the Midland or Intek radios, this radio seems quite well built. This mobile rig is second in their range, above the TCB550. For a basic radio it does have a few nice features including, Scan, LCR and an extra long mic lead. It has all the European channels (MultiStandard), so it is legal to use it across Europe(with appropriate licence).
Specifications
Channels: 10 Bands including UK, EU and Poland. AM and FM.
Features: (from left to right) Channel Up & Down buttons, AM/FM/LCR button, Scan button, EMG Channel button, Rotary Squelch control, Rotary volume control. The display is LCD with a blue backlight and no signal meter.
The back of the rig has the 12 Volt detachable DC power lead, Extension speaker socket and SO239 antenna socket.
The set comes complete with a good sized, standard TTI Microphone with extra long lead and Up & Down Channel buttons and also a lock button which stops the up/down buttons being hit accidentally(very handy). It plugs into a 6 pin socket(not P6 wired) on the front panel. Also included is an Operator's Manual, power lead, mounting bracket and side screws.
Performance
Receive: The quality of signal is good, there is plenty of volume. Sensitivity is good too. Squelch seems to work well, although it lacks the Auto-squelch feature. The larger squelch and volume controls knobs on the front are better than those on its bigger brother, the TCB770, which are a bit fiddly.
Transmit: Volume on transmit is over the top, deviation is over 3Khz! Which basically means anyone who talks loudly into the mic will sound distorted and muffled. Power is set to exactly 4 watts.
Build Quality: Seems to be better than the TCB770 in my opinion, knobs on the front are more solid, although like on all the TTI radios the case seems to get easily marked.
Recommendations
The TTI TCB-660 is a low-price radio with a few handy features. Although it is quite cheap I do feel you get what you pay for.
If you're on a budget and want a basic cb radio with decent build quality the TTI could be the radio for you.
